May 4, 2009

Officials from Lowcountry Medical Associates, PC (LMA) and Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) today announced that following 18 months of talks, the 62 physicians and 319 employees of LMA will be joining the Roper St. Francis Physicians Network.

Considered one of the largest primary care group practices in the state, LMA consists of 23 physician offices, two diagnostic imaging centers and a medical laboratory. Founded in 1995, LMA specializes in family practice, internal medicine and pediatrics. LMA physicians and staff will become affiliates of the Roper St. Francis Physicians Network effective May 11, 2009.

"It's a pleasure and honor to welcome LMA physicians and their support team to our Roper St. Francis family," said David L. Dunlap, President and CEO of RSFH. "Our organizations have enjoyed a positive and productive working relationship for many years," added Dunlap, who notes that LMA physicians have been long-standing members of the RSFH medical staff.

According to F. Strait Fairey, MD, LMA President, "This affiliation brings together two excellent healthcare organizations. Combining our strengths and resources makes good sense, and will benefit our patients and the communities we serve, both now and in the future.

"Our goal is to work together to improve quality and access to health care for area residents," added Fairey. "With practice locations in Charleston, Berkeley, and Colleton Counties, our 62 primary care physicians add an important element to the physician network for Roper St. Francis Healthcare", adds Dr. Fairey. "Our goal is to work together to improve quality and access to healthcare for area residents".

The Roper St. Francis Physicians Network is a part of RSFH, which employs private practice physicians and their medical office staffs. Doug Bowling, Vice President with RSFH and CEO of its physicians network said that, "We will now have 133 physicians, including primary and specialty care, in 51 locations throughout Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties."
