Charleston, SC - Lowcountry Medical Associates
moved into its new medical laboratory building in October
2006. The free-standing building is located at 4450 Leeds
Place West off the Leeds Avenue exit from Interstate 526.
"Having outgrown our space in West Ashley, we are
delighted to be in our new building specifically designed
to be a medical laboratory," remarks Dr. Levern Livingston,
medical director of the laboratory. "We utilized the
consulting expertise of Dr. William Crymes, a pathologist
in Charleston who has designed several medical laboratories.
"Understanding operational efficiencies for a high
volume of laboratory specimens was critical in the planning
of our building,” continues Dr. Livingston. "The
facility is 7,500 sqare feet and has 18 laboratory personnel.
Our laboratory processes approximately 1000 tests per day
for LMA physicians and area physicians referring to our
lab," says Jami Page, laboratory director.
LMA's Laboratory has earned the Laboratory Excellence Award for two
consecutive laboratory inspections with the Commission on
Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA). Laboratories who
are accredited by COLA are recognized by the Joint Commission
and state agencies as exceeding industry standards.
The LMA Laboratory houses state-of-the-art instruments that add
to the efficiency of operations. These instruments provide
functionality for testing in areas of chemistry, special
chemistry, allergy, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis,
and microbiology. All processes provided by the LMA lab
allow for improved turnaround time, reduced costs, increased
labor efficiency and high quality results for better patient
care.
National Laboratory week is April 22-28th. LMA salutes our
hard working laboratory professionals.
