Newton Family Medicine Will Hold Free Memory Screenings
National Event Stresses the Importance of Early Diagnosis
November 2004
Individuals concerned about memory loss can take advantage of free screenings from November 16th through December 30th as part of National Memory Screening Day, an annual event by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) to promote early detection of Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses.
The confidential tests average ten minutes, and consist of questions and tasks to assess memory. A screening could indicate whether the person should follow up with a complete medical exam. It is not used to diagnose any illness and does not replace consultation with a qualified professional, the AFA said.
Sandy O'Neale, Office Manager of Newton Family Medicine stated, "We decided to participate in this event because a large amount of our patients are elderly who have concerns about Alzheimer's disease. We feel that offering free screenings from now until the end of the year will be a great opportunity for us to thank our patients."
Newton Family Medicine will hold memory screenings at 1247 Savannah Highway Charleston, SC 29407, by appointment. For more information, call (843) 766-7696.
