LMA in the Heartwalk
LMA leads the way in the Heartwalk

Charleston, SC  -- The Lowcountry Heartwalk had a beautiful fall morning for walkers to step out in support of the fight against heart disease and stroke. An estimated 4,500 walkers gathered at Fountain Square for a 3-mile walk beside the harbor and circled the Battery.

Leading that effort was Lowcountry Medical Associates, which provided the pace car: a fire truck that proudly carried the LMA banner. LMA is a bronze sponsor for this event.

“It is what we do as primary care physicians,” stated John vonLehe, Chairman of LMA’s Community Services Committee. “Our emphasis is on healthy lifestyles and prevention of the number one and number three killers in SC.”

The Lowcountry Heartwalk is not just one day. It is a year-round emphasis on diet, education, exercise, and wellness. LMA employees and physicians raised an additional $10,000 in walker contributions.

“We have 22 primary practice sites in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics, that embrace this yearly event,” added Dr. F. Stait Fairey, LMA President. “Heart disease affects all ages, from congenital heart defects in children to men and women across all cultures. We are proud to support the Lowcountry Heartwalk.”

Money raised from this yearly event stays in our community to support research, new technology, and our hospital system’s heart, vascular, and stroke centers.
