LMA Laboratory Receives National Accreditation

Charleston, SC --- Lowcountry Medical Associates, PC (LMA) has been awarded the Laboratory
Excellence Award from the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), the premier
accreditation program for physician office laboratories. COLA's accreditation is awarded only
to laboratories that apply to rigorous standards of quality in day-to-day operations,
demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a
comprehensive on-site laboratory survey.
COLA is a voluntary, peer reviewed accreditation program for physician's office laboratories.
COLA defines an office laboratory as a clinical laboratory used by a fully-licensed physician
to test specimens collected primarily from patients of the practice.
The Laboratory Excellence Award was created to give COLA laboratories a special recognition
when they have demonstrated exemplary patient testing performance. Laboratories accredited
by COLA are recognized by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
and state agencies as exceeding industry standards.

notes Jami Page, laboratory services director for LMA. "Recognition for our hard work
and dedication to our patients is a great motivator for our team and achieving a score
of 100 percent compliance is evidence of our ongoing commitment to excellence in medicine
and patient care."
LMA offers quality lab services at convenient locations throughout the area. Their
accredited lab facilities provide testing for approximately 75 analytes and panels
in the following areas: chemistry, special chemistry, serology, hematology, coagulation,
and urinalysis. The lab's previous received accreditation in 2003 when they were last
surveyed by COLA.
LMA, a local group practice, consists of 59 primary care physicians with 21 practices
conveniently located throughout the Charleston-metro area. LMA specializes in family
medicine, pediatrics and internal medicine. In addition to physician practices, LMA has
eight lab draw locations and a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center.
