Laboratory Locations
In 2003 & 2005, LMA was presented the Laboratory Excellence Award from the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), the premier accreditation program for physician office laboratories. COLA's accreditation is awarded only to laboratories that apply to rigorous standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and pass a comprehensive on-site laboratory survey.

COLA is peer review accreditation program for physician's office laboratories. COLA defines an office laboratory as a clinical laboratory used by a fully-licensed physician to test specimens collected primarily from patients of the practice.

The Laboratory Excellence Award was created to give COLA laboratories a special recognition when they have demonstrated exemplary patient testing performance. Laboratories who are accredited by COLA are recognized by the Joint Commission and state agencies as exceeding industry standards.

"We are very proud to be selected for COLA's Laboratory Excellence Award," notes Jami Page, laboratory services director for LMA. "Recognition for our hard work and dedication to our patients is a great motivator for our team and achieving a score of 100% compliance is evidence of our ongoing commitment to excellence in medicine and patient care."

FAQs:
Are LMA lab services available to all physicians?
Yes. LMA will process all laboratory referrals, including those received from physicians outside of LMA. We can process most labs and can work with individual providers on particular requests. For tests that LMA is unable to faciliate, we have partnered with Spectrum Labs to meet those needs. The majority of our test results are available within 24 hours and stats are called in before 9 p.m. and faxed to the referring physician. If you are physician and would like information about our lab services, contact Jami Page, Laboratory Services Director, at (843) 763-2611 ext. 5.

What is the normal turn-around-time for testing at LMA Lab?
Most lab testing is performed within 24 hours with the majority completed within the same day of collection. LMA Lab has a small menu of tests that are "batched" and performed only on designated days. Tests that must be sent to a reference lab may require additional time for completion.

How are reports sent to LMA practices?
Routine lab reports are sent via modem to printers within LMA practices or faxed. These reports are usually transmitted by 10 a.m. the day following collection. A report may be requested by the practice and sent any time during business hours. Online reporting is also available to the ordering physician.

How does a patient get lab/blood work done?
A patient going to any LMA physician may have their blood work performed at any of the above ten locations. The collected specimens will be sent directly to LMA Central Lab in North Charleston for processing and testing. Following the completion of the lab service, a report will be sent to the ordering physician.
